What makes Vanguard different
Cuts along its whole length
On a lot of knives, the bolster comes all the way down to the edge. We designed ours differently: it gives you the comfort and protection of a classic bolster without getting in the way when you cut or sharpen.
Sharpen it yourself, along the whole edge
The bolster doesn’t come down to the edge, so the sharpener reaches right up to the handle and the edge stays straight even after many sharpenings.
Light in the hand
It weighs 236 g and has less steel at the heel, so your hand doesn’t tire when there’s a lot to cut.
Hold it like a chef
The bolster is rounded, so your thumb and index finger rest comfortably on it. That way you hold the blade securely and cut more precisely.
Comes sharp
German stainless steel 1.4116, hardened to 58–60 HRC. When it starts to dull, a few strokes on a honing steel and it cuts like new again.
The handle doesn’t swell in water
It’s POM, a dense, non-porous material: it doesn’t soak up water and it doesn’t crack. The steel runs through the whole handle and is held by 3 rivets.
The gift that doesn’t end up in a drawer
It comes in the Vanguard box with foam inside. If you like, we can engrave a name on the blade for €9.99.

Questions before you order
Half bolster or full bolster: which is better to start with?
The half bolster. The knife is lighter, you can sharpen it yourself along the whole edge, and you can cut with the part next to the handle too. A full bolster has its uses, it keeps your fingers away from the edge and adds weight, but over time the edge gets a dip next to the handle, where the sharpener can’t reach.
What kind of steel is 1.4116?
It’s a German stainless steel with chromium, molybdenum and vanadium. On Vanguard it’s hardened to 58–60 HRC: hard enough to hold an edge and tough enough not to chip easily.
Why does it cost less than other DACOBI collections?
Because the blade is made of a single steel, not layers of Damascus or San Mai. The 10-year warranty and the 30 days to return it are the same as on every DACOBI knife.
How do I keep it sharp?
It comes sharp. When you feel it’s losing its bite, a few strokes on a honing steel and it cuts like new again. Every few months, run it through the EasySharp. Because the bolster stops above the edge, the sharpener reaches along its whole length.
What is the ErgoGrip handle made of?
POM, a dense technical material often used for professional knife handles. It doesn’t swell in water and it doesn’t crack. The steel runs through the whole handle (full tang) and is held by 3 rivets.
Which one should I start with?
Start with the chef’s knife or the Santoku: either one does almost everything. Then add the bread knife, and the utility knife for fruit and small vegetables. The Kiritsuke is for anyone who wants a longer blade, the fillet knife is for fish, and the steak knife is for the table.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Wash it by hand straight after use and dry it. Don’t use it to break bones.
Can I have it engraved as a gift?
Yes. It comes in the Vanguard gift box. Engraving costs €9.99 and adds 1–2 days to delivery. Engraved knives can’t be returned.
