Photos don’t tell the whole story

See how the light plays in the pink resin, how the box opens and where the collection gets its name.

Light in the resin

Burl wood and pink resin. Every handle looks different in the light.

The Sakura gift box

Lift the lid and the knife is waiting for you in the Sakura gift box.

Cherry blossom

Sakura means cherry blossom in Japanese. That’s where the collection gets its name.

What makes Sakura different

  • The Sakura bread knife cutting through the crisp crust of a sourdough loaf

The serrations bite into the crust straight away

The blade goes through the crust without shattering it and through the crumb without squashing it.

  • The Sakura bread knife slicing a soft loaf without squashing it

    Soft bread stays fluffy

You don’t have to press down on soft bread, so the slices keep their shape.

  • The Sakura bread knife going through a big round country loaf

    Goes through the whole loaf

The 24 cm blade spans even a big country loaf, so each slice takes a single stroke.

  • A breakfast table with sliced bread, butter and jam, and the Sakura bread knife on a board

    Bakery-style slices

The slices come out straight and even, so the bread looks good on the table.

  • The wet burl wood and pink resin handle of the Sakura knife, above the sink

    Easy to clean

Wash it by hand and wipe it with a soft towel. The wood is stabilized with resin, so water won’t make it swell.

  • A craftsman wiping down a Sakura knife in the workshop, next to blocks of wood and pink resin

    Assembled and sharpened by hand

The handle is fitted by hand, and every edge is put on by a person at a belt grinder. It’s already sharp when it reaches you.

  • The Sakura bread knife in its gift box

    Arrives already gift-boxed

It arrives in the Sakura gift box. If you like, we can engrave a name on the blade for €9.99.

No two handles are the same

Every handle starts as a piece of stabilized burl wood. Pink and white resin is poured over the wood, fills the gaps and sets in waves that never repeat, so your handle is one of a kind.

Every piece of burl wood picked individually

The knots and grain of the wood form the base of the handle, so every piece looks different.

Hand-poured pink resin

Pink and white resin runs into the grain and sets in waves, different every time.

Polished to a shine

The handle has a glass-like shine and wipes clean easily.

Questions before you order

How heavy is it?

181 grams, handle included. The long blade goes through bread without you having to press.

Does it cut soft bread and brioche too?

Yes. The serrations grip both a hard crust and a soft crumb, so brioche slices don’t get squashed.

Can a serrated knife still be sharpened?

The serrations hold their edge for a long time, so it rarely needs sharpening. When it does, drop us a line and we’ll tell you how.

How long does it stay sharp?

It comes sharp, and the hard core, around 60 HRC, holds its edge for a long time. When you feel it’s not cutting like new, give it a few strokes on a honing steel.

Will my handle look like the photos?

The colours and materials are the same, but the waves in the resin and the wood will be different. The photos show examples.

How do I look after it?

Wash it by hand and dry it straight away. Keep it out of the dishwasher. Store it on a magnetic holder or in its box.

Can I have it engraved as a gift?

Yes. It comes in the Sakura gift box, and when you order you can add an engraving on the blade for €9.99. Engraving adds 1–2 days to delivery and is paid by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Engraved knives can’t be returned.

What does San Mai mean? Is it Damascus?

It isn’t Damascus. San Mai means three layers of steel: a hard core in the middle that holds the edge, with stainless steel on either side. The blade is matt, serrated along its whole length.

Is every handle really unique?

Yes. Burl wood and resin never come out the same, so the waves on the handle look different on every knife.

When will it arrive and how do I pay?

Delivery time depends on your country and you’ll see it at checkout. You can pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and shipping is free from €80.

Who is Sakura for?

For women who cook often and want a good knife that won’t tire their hand. It’s also a lovely gift for your mum, your wife or a friend.
