Photos don’t tell the whole story

See how the light plays in the pink resin, how the box opens and where the collection gets its name.

Light in the resin

Burl wood and pink resin. Every handle looks different in the light.

The Sakura gift box

Lift the lid and the knife is waiting for you in the Sakura gift box.

Cherry blossom

Sakura means cherry blossom in Japanese. That’s where the collection gets its name.

What makes Sakura different

  • Hands hulling strawberries with the tip of the Sakura utility knife, over a white bowl

The tip goes exactly where you want it

With the fine tip you hull strawberries and cut small pieces exactly how you want them.

  • The Sakura utility knife cutting thin slices from a piece of hard cheese on a wooden board

    Thin slices of cheese

The 1.8 mm blade goes through hard cheese without breaking it, so the slices come out even.

  • Hands slicing a pear for a child’s lunchbox with the Sakura utility knife

You’ll reach for it ten times a day

It weighs just 87 grams and sits well in the hand, so it’s the one you grab for an apple, some cheese or the kids’ lunchboxes.

  • The Sakura utility knife on a board next to a cheese and fruit platter, on a breakfast table

On the table it looks like a piece of jewellery

Put it next to the cheese board and your guests will ask where it’s from.

  • The wet burl wood and pink resin handle of the Sakura knife, above the sink

    Easy to clean

Wash it by hand and wipe it with a soft towel. The wood is stabilized with resin, so water won’t make it swell.

  • A craftsman wiping down a Sakura knife in the workshop, next to blocks of wood and pink resin

    Assembled and sharpened by hand

The handle is fitted by hand, and every edge is put on by a person at a belt grinder. It’s already sharp when it reaches you.

  • The Sakura utility knife in its gift box

    Arrives already gift-boxed

It arrives in the Sakura gift box. If you like, we can engrave a name on the blade for €9.99.

No two handles are the same

Every handle starts as a piece of stabilized burl wood. Pink and white resin is poured over the wood, fills the gaps and sets in waves that never repeat, so your handle is one of a kind.

Every piece of burl wood picked individually

The knots and grain of the wood form the base of the handle, so every piece looks different.

Hand-poured pink resin

Pink and white resin runs into the grain and sets in waves, different every time.

Polished to a shine

The handle has a glass-like shine and wipes clean easily.

    Comes sharp

From the very first dinner, you cut fruit, cheese and small vegetables without forcing it.

  2. After a month

    Still cuts just as well

The hard core holds the edge. When you feel it’s not cutting like new, give it a few strokes on a honing steel.

  3. 10 years on

    Still under warranty

You have a 10-year warranty on manufacturing defects. Wash it by hand and dry it, and the handle stays beautiful.

Questions before you order

How light is it?

It weighs 87 grams, handle included. It’s easy to hold and you stay in control on small cuts.

What do I use it for?

For fruit, cheese, small vegetables and anything you cut in your hand. For big vegetables and meat there’s the Sakura chef’s knife.

How long does it stay sharp?

It comes sharp, and the hard core, around 60 HRC, holds its edge for a long time. When you feel it’s not cutting like new, give it a few strokes on a honing steel.

Will my handle look like the photos?

The colours and materials are the same, but the waves in the resin and the wood will be different. The photos show examples.

How do I look after it?

Wash it by hand and dry it straight away. Keep it out of the dishwasher. Store it on a magnetic holder or in its box.

Can I have it engraved as a gift?

Yes. It comes in the Sakura gift box, and when you order you can add an engraving on the blade for €9.99. Engraving adds 1–2 days to delivery and is paid by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Engraved knives can’t be returned.

What does San Mai mean? Is it Damascus?

It isn’t Damascus. San Mai means three layers of steel: a hard core in the middle that holds the edge, with stainless steel on either side. The blade is matt, with a single fine line above the edge.

Is every handle really unique?

Yes. Burl wood and resin never come out the same, so the waves on the handle look different on every knife.

What do I sharpen it with?

When it stops cutting like new, give it a few strokes on the S11 ceramic honing rod. For a full sharpening, there’s the EliteEdge system.

When will it arrive and how do I pay?

Delivery time depends on your country and you’ll see it at checkout. You can pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and shipping is free from €80.

Who is Sakura for?

For women who cook often and want a good knife that won’t tire their hand. It’s also a lovely gift for your mum, your wife or a friend.
