The first proper knife in your kitchen
Vanguard knives: 7 professional knives in German 1.4116 steel, with ErgoGrip handles. It’s the DACOBI series to start with: you pay less and still get a professional knife.
- Your hand sits securely on the handle, and the bolster stops your fingers sliding onto the blade.
- Your hand doesn’t tire when there’s a lot to chop. The chef’s knife weighs 213 g and has less steel at the heel.
- On the chef’s knife, the Santoku and the Kiritsuke, the bolster thins out towards the edge, so the knife is lighter and more comfortable to hold. When you sharpen, the bolster stays out of the way.
- For the price, you get a full tang, 58–60 HRC and the same 10-year warranty as every DACOBI knife.
- 10-year warranty
- 30-day returns
- card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay
- free delivery from €80
Half bolster or full bolster: which is better to start with?
The half bolster. The knife is lighter, you can sharpen it yourself along the whole edge, and you can cut with the part next to the handle too. A full bolster has its uses: it keeps your fingers away from the edge and adds weight. But over time the edge gets a dip next to the handle, where the sharpener can’t reach. In the Vanguard series, the chef’s knife, Santoku and Kiritsuke have a half bolster.
Why does it cost less than other DACOBI collections?
Because the blade is made of a single steel, not layers of Damascus or San Mai. The 10-year warranty and the 30 days to return it are the same as on every DACOBI knife.
How do I keep it sharp?
It comes sharp. When you feel it’s losing its bite, a few strokes on a honing steel and it cuts like new again. Every few months, run it through the EasySharp. The bread knife and the steak knife are serrated, so take those to a sharpening service.
Which one should I start with?
Start with the chef’s knife or the Santoku: either one does almost everything. Then add the bread knife, and the utility knife for fruit and small vegetables. The Kiritsuke is for anyone who wants a longer blade, the fillet knife is for fish, and the steak knife is for the table.
When will it arrive and how do I pay?
Order by 12:30 (Central European time) on a working day and it ships the same day. Delivery time depends on your country, and you’ll see it at checkout. You can pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and delivery is free from €80.

More questions
What kind of steel is 1.4116?
It’s a German stainless steel with chromium, molybdenum and vanadium. On Vanguard it’s hardened to 58–60 HRC: hard enough to hold an edge and tough enough not to chip easily.
What is the ErgoGrip handle made of?
POM, a dense engineering plastic used on a lot of professional knife handles. It doesn’t swell in water and it doesn’t crack. The steel runs through the whole handle (full tang) and is held by 3 rivets.
Can I have it engraved as a gift?
Yes. It comes in the Vanguard gift box. Engraving costs €7,99 and adds 1–2 working days to delivery. Engraved knives can’t be returned.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Wash it by hand straight after use and dry it.
